“Seoul’s retail world bursts forth in the brightly lit, packed-to-the-gills and supremely noisy streets of Myeong-dong. This is Seoul’s equivalent of London’s Oxford St or New York’s Fifth Ave, with the massive, 24-hour Namdaemun Market on hand just in case you need to exponentially add to your shopping options. Looming over the commercial frenzy are the peaceful and tree-clad slopes of Namsan, a great place for exercise and city views.” – Lonely Planet
These are some of the best hotels in the area of Myeongdong, Seoul, South Korea.
If you want accommodations near Myeongdong Station, you got it. The Hotel Prince is literally just meters away from the train station’s Exit 2. A stop of the airport limo bus (6015) is just across the street and the Myeongdong shopping district is just a two-minute walk away. It’s such a prime location, many tour operators actually meet just outside the door. There’s a huge Daiso beside the hotel and a Uniqlo across the street. The rooms admittedly aren’t anything to write home about: many are small, look dated, and have thin walls, and toothbrushes aren’t supplied so you have to bring your own. (Some rooms do have a kettle and a small fridge, plus views of the Seoul tower.) Still, for many, the location more than makes up for it. One guest notes: “Google Maps doesn’t work well in Seoul, so its good to be close to a metro station if you want to get places and not get lost.” And extra plus: there’s a Twotwo fried chicken restaurant just nearby!

There’s a reason why this guesthouse is one of the most highly rated in both Booking (9.2/10) and Tripadvisor (5/5): it feels like home away from home. Guests cannot speak highly enough of the hospitality of the guesthouse’s owners, a Korean and Iranian couple who are universally described as warm, welcoming, accommodating, and helpful. One guest recounts: “I got out of the guesthouse at 1am something to catch my early flight and the husband got out immediately to help me with the luggage because ‘it’s my responsibility.’” The only caveat seems to be that this charming guesthouse is located on a hill and people with a lot of luggage or mobility problems might find it tricky to get to, but hey — if you need help, you know you’ll get it. Breakfast is a lovely assortment of cereal, milk, toast, fruits, juice, and ramen. And for Muslim travellers, it bears special mention that there’s a restaurant just a few steps away called Kampungku serving halal food. Both Myeongdong Station and the shops are a short walk away but far enough to not be noisy at night.

Location, location, location. The Grand Hotel’s proximity to everything is its primary selling point. It’s only 0.1 km from Myeongdong Station and 150 m from an airport bus stop. (Guests recommend using the Naver map instead of the traveler’s usual go-to Google Maps.) The shopping street is only five minutes’ walk away; there are restaurants, convenience stores, and a huge Daiso nearby as well. A few cons: rooms can be cramped, walls can be thin, and the lighting could be better. Breakfast is sufficient, however, and guests particularly appreciate the complimentary drinks and snacks during Friday evening happy hour.

One guest loved staying at the L7 Myeongdong so much, she said, “Staying at this property was like winning a lottery!” From the clean and comfortable rooms with a rainshower and “magic buttons” toilet, to the helpful staff, to the 30% discount card for the cosmetic store downstairs, to the bottles of water replenished daily, most guests can’t say enough good things about this accommodation. And of course the location is prime: just 100 m from Myeongdong Station, a 3-minute walk to the airport bus stop, and an easy stroll to the shops and food stalls of Myeongdong and Nandaemun. And if the weather should turn inclement? No problem. One guest recommends the underground shops and, of course, the 8-story Daiso just across the street.

The first thing you need to know about the Air Hostel Myeongdong is that in most booking platforms, you would need to stay a minimum of two nights, otherwise the Air Hostel would just show up as unavailable. The good news is: most guests are quite happy to stay two nights or even more! The hotel is located in the heart of Myeongdong, with the subway a mere 5-minute walk away. Guests love the good WiFi connection and the free coffee and drinks in the lounge. Hospitality is one of the hotel’s best points; one guest especially appreciated how the staff would try to engage them in small talk and make the effort to give them directions for wherever they were heading that day. And croissant lovers out there – rejoice! Air Hostel Myeongdong serves really good ones for breakfast.

Guests love how they can shop till they drop at Myeongdong, pop into their room at Days Hotel for a quick break or to unload their shopping bags, and then head back to Myeongdong for more. The hotel is near not only to the famous shops but also to food stalls, cafes, convenience stores, restaurants, bakeries…basically everything the area is known and loved for. Guests especially adore the nearby Isaac Toast, Ediya Coffee, and the CU convenience store. But if you’re looking for something familiar, there’s a Starbucks and McDonald’s close by too. Even Namsan tower is just up the hill, with maps for how to get there available at the hotel. Staff are courteous and helpful and both check-in and check-out are a breeze. Plus, adds one guest, the hotel always smells fresh. That’s always a good thing!

Want to be right in the middle of the action? The Artravel Myeongdong is for you. First of all, getting there is easy peasy: you can take the subway, which is only 200m away, or you can take the airport bus, which stops right across the street. Once you’re there, you might find it hard to find a good reason to love. Shops abound, the street food night market is a stone’s throw away, and there are even food stalls right outside the hotel. Aside from the stellar location, guests also praise the hotel’s amenities, the good value breakfast, the helpful staff, and the abundance of natural light. AND the hotel has its own spa. What more could one ask for in Myeongdong?

This one’s a bit further than the other accommodations on our list but as far as price goes, the Blue Boat Hostel Myeongdong takes the cake. Beds in dorm rooms go for as low as ₱724 a night and there are all-female rooms available. What’s more, this budget-friendly price includes breakfast, which includes bread, jam, milk, orange juice, coffee, and cook-your-own eggs. Toiletries are provided: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, even nail polish (!), and there’s also a hair dryer, curling iron, and straightening iron available for guests to use. Beds have heating pads, which come in real handy during what can be bitterly cold winters in Seoul. Staff are helpful and speak English ably. And while Blue Boat is the farthest from Myeongdong Station among the properties listed here, it is still only roughly 10 minutes’ walk to the Myeongdong tourist district and 15 minutes to the Lotte department store.
