Lake Bled is one of the most sought after sights in Slovenia. It is located in the town of Bled, in northwestern Slovenia, on the foothills of the Julian Alps. Bled is 52 km — or an hour away by bus — from the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana.

There are two train stations near Lake Bled. The one nearest to Ljubljana is the Lesce-Bled train station. It is still 4 km away from the lake but there are buses that frequently ply the route between the Lesce-Bled train station and the lake. The other train station near Lake Bled is Bled Jezero, which is 11-12 minutes away on foot to the lakefront. Bled Jezero is on the other (western) side of the lake, which has fewer accommodations and convenient establishments compared to the northeastern side. Overall, neither train station is really ideal for a stay in Lake Bled.

The best, easiest option is to take a bus up to the Lake Bled Bus Station, which is less than 5 minutes’ walk to the lake itself. The area around the bus stop has plenty of accommodation choices as well as restaurants and supermarkets.

We have shortlisted the hotels, hostels, guesthouses, and bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) in the area that are within 5-7 minutes’ walk of the Lake Bled bus station and that have scores of at least 8 / 10 at Booking.com — where only verified guests can leave ratings and reviews — and at least 4 / 5 at both TripAdvisor and Google Reviews. We describe three of them in greater detail right below then summarize the entire shortlist in the table that follows.

1. Bled Rose Hotel

Bled Rose Hotel has the perfect location: less than a minute on foot from the bus station and just around 3 minutes’ walk to the edge of the lake. The amenities are excellent as well, with an indoor pool, outdoor hot tub, and spa facilities. In fact, the only drawback seems to be the price; at nightly rates starting at €170, it is the most expensive among the accommodations listed here. However, if you don’t mind a bit of a splurge, you can’t go wrong with Bled Rose Hotel.

The hotel offers various double rooms, some with a balcony; a studio that can accommodate up to three people; and a “lake side” suite for two. Children are welcome. Guests may bring pets upon request, subject to a surcharge.

2. Castle Hostel 1004

If you’re looking for the most affordable place to stay near Lake Bled that also has quite decent ratings and is a short walking distance to both transportation and the main attraction, you really don’t have to look further. Castle Hostel 1004 is 220 meters (roughly 3 minutes’ walk) from the Lake Bled bus station. It is also only 450 meters — just over 6 minutes’ walk — to the lakefront. And its lowest price can’t be beat: just €14 a night.

It is a hostel so that €14 rate is for shared accommodations. They have 4-bed, 6-bed, and 8-bed dormitory rooms. They also have private rooms for those who prefer them. There are twin rooms, double rooms, a quadruple room, and a family room that can sleep up to eight adults. Unfortunately, children are not allowed, so this is not the place for a lakeside holiday with the kids, but if you’re with friends or family members over 18, the variety of available accommodations makes Castle Hostel 1004 a great option.

  • 220 meters from the Lake Bled bus station
  • 450 meters to the lake
  • 8.2 / 10 at Booking.com, 4.5 / 5 at TripAdvisor, 4.5 / 5 at Google Reviews
  • Starts at €14

3. Bajtica Guesthouse

Bajtica Guesthouse — or Villa Bajtica Vintage Art House in Google Maps — is a bit farther back from the lake than the first two accommodations but its previous guests would agree that it’s a more than worthy trade-off, with one calling Bajtica “the most wonderful stay I’ve ever been in.”

The house itself is beautiful: built in 1905 but lovingly maintained, surrounded by flowers and fruit trees, in a peaceful location that is nevertheless just 5-7 minutes’ walk from the Bled bus station. The lake itself is 8-10 minutes’ walk from the house. And the experience is the stuff of dreams: warm, welcoming hosts; an amazing, abundant breakfast with a lot of the food homemade or picked from the garden; and a homey atmosphere that has you already plotting your return on the very first day of your stay. All that and a stay here starts at only €70 a night!

In the main house, only two rooms are rented out: a single room (perfect for solo travellers!) and a double room with a balcony. In addition, there is a two-bedroom chalet that can accommodate up to four guests. Children are welcome so the chalet in Bajtica Guesthouse is a great option for families travelling to Lake Bled. Pets are not allowed.

Additional Notes

  • The table above lists the accommodations from nearest to farthest from the bus station. Bled Rose Hotel, the first on the list, is practically just across the street from the Lake Bled bus station. However, even the farthest ones in the list — namely, Bajtica Guesthouse, Back Hostel, Jazz B&B, Rooms Jani — are all just 450 meters from the bus station. That’s just 5-7 minutes away on foot.
  • Vila Prešeren is a lakefront villa, so if you’re looking for accommodations right on the shores of Lake Bled that are also just a short walk from the bus station, that’s the best option for you.
  • Although we chose Bajtica Guesthouse as our pick for the best among the best, it was a close contest with Jazz B&B. Both accommodations are around 6 minutes’ walk from the bus station, both have stellar ratings from previous guests, and both have rooms starting at €70 per night. The difference is that Jazz B&B is just a bit farther from the lakeshore than Bajtica — though in practical terms, the difference in distance only means 1 or 2 more minutes of walking. Jazz B&B actually has more room options, with a variety of double/twin rooms and family rooms. In fact, while the chalet at Bajtica can only accommodate up to four guests, the family rooms at Jazz B&B can sleep up to six.
  • Whisper it but the Old Parish House is a really, really good option too. It’s 4-5 minutes’ walk from the bus station and 2-3 minutes walk to the lakefront. In addition, among the accommodations shortlisted here, it’s the one that’s closest to Bled Castle. It’s simply furnished but spotlessly clean and its humble charms have earned it ratings any accommodation can be proud of: 9.2 / 10 at Booking.com, 4.5 / 5 at TripAdvisor, and 4.7 / 5 at Google Reviews. Rooms here start at €87 a night.
