A way to see Paris without breaking the bank, meet fellow travellers, and easily access public transportation, thereby saving on transportation costs and minimizing carbon footprint?

Oui, s’il vous plait!

Savvy travellers — even those who don’t normally consider themselves hostel-staying sort of people — know hostels are often a great option for accommodations, especially in expensive cities like Paris. All that’s needed for a comfortable stay is a little research…and so we’ve done a lot of that for you.

Below is our list of the best hostels in Paris that are near a Métropolitain (subway) station. We describe our best three picks in detail and then all eleven hostels are summarized in the table that follows.

To make it to this list, a hostel had to score at least 7.5/10 in Booking.com, a hotel booking site where only people who actually booked and stayed in the hotel can submit ratings and reviews. (We normally only shortlist hotels that have a score of at least 8, or sometimes even 8.5, but these are hostels, and considering the cost vs. benefit ratio, we decided to be a little more lenient.) Additionally, to make sure their Booking.com scores aren’t just flukes, the hostels also had to have a rating of at least 4/5 in both TripAdvisor and Google Reviews. Finally, they had to be within 350 meters — or 5 minutes’ walk — of the nearest subway station.

1. The People – Paris Bercy

This hostel in the 12th arrondissement has ratings from previous guests that even most hotels would love to receive. Formerly known as The People Hostel – Paris 12, it is located just over 200 meters from two Metro stations. It is a short distance from the River Seine, a stone’s throw away from Gare de Bercy, and walking distance to Gare de Lyon. It is also close to a couple of supermarkets, so you can shop for supplies and make your travel euros stretch farther.

There are a variety of rooms available — both dorm rooms and private rooms — and the price, starting at €37 a night, is pretty good for Paris. They also allow children in their private rooms, something that can’t be said for all hostels (so if you’re travelling with children, make sure to check!).

  • 210 meters from the Dugommier Metro station, 240 meters from the Daumesnil Metro station
  • 8.9 / 10 at Booking.com, 4.5 / 5 at TripAdvisor, 4.6 / 5 at Google Reviews

2. The People – Paris Belleville

The People – Paris Belleville — formerly known as Les Piaules — is another outright gem. It is located in the 11th arrondissement, just northeast of the famous Le Marais neighborhood of Paris. It has a sun deck, a library, and a snack bar, as well as an atmosphere that one previous guest described as a “lovely vibe…buzzing but not chaotic.” Dormitory rooms range in size from 4 beds to 8 beds. There are also private rooms: doubles, quadruples with either shared or private baths, and an 8-bed room you can reserve for your entire travel party. Luggage storage is in lockers that cost 1 to 5 euros.

  • 170 meters from Couronnes Metro station
  • 8.4 / 10 at Booking.com, 4.5 / 5 at TripAdvisor, 4.4 / 5 at Google Reviews

3. Jo&Joe Paris – Nation

Talk about hostels that are near the Metro — this one is practically a stone’s throw away! Jo&Joe is in the eastern part of Paris, in the 20th arrondissement, within walking distance of the famed Père Lachaise cemetery. Among its many charms are a wide roof terrace with strong WiFi (that’s always important, isn’t it?) and a well-equipped shared kitchen. Dorm rooms sleep 3 to 8 people (request a lower bunk if you would like to have a privacy screen) while private rooms include doubles, triples, and quadruples. There are several grocery stores and affordable restaurants nearby too, making it a great option for smart-spending visitors to Paris.

FAQs

Which Paris hostels are near the Eiffel Tower?

They aren’t exactly a stone’s throw away from the Eiffel Tower but the Adveniat Paris and 3 Ducks Boutique Hostel & Bar are both relatively close by. Among the two, the Adveniat is closer: it’s only 1.6 km away (less than half an hour of walking), it’s near other attractions such as the Champs-Élysées, and since it’s just 3 minutes’ walk to the Seine River, your route to the Eiffel Tower will be a scenic one.

Which Paris hostel is near the Gare du Nord?

The hostel closest to the Gare du Nord would be St Christopher’s Inn Paris – Gare du Nord. It’s also very close to the Gare de l’Est and is only 0.1 km to the nearest Metro station.

Which Paris hostels have air conditioning?

Here’s a shortlist of Paris hostels that have air conditioning and are rated good to excellent (at least 7/10):

  • 3 Ducks Boutique Hostel & Bar
  • Generator Paris
  • Jo&Joe Paris – Nation
  • Le Village Montmartre
  • Oops! Latin Quarter
  • The People – Paris Belleville
  • The People – Paris Bercy
  • The People – Paris Nation

Which Paris hostels have a pool?

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a hostel in Paris that has a pool. Generally, space is at a premium in the city, and you can reasonably expect swimming pools at higher end accommodations such as Maison Albar Hotels Le Pont-Neuf, Cheval Blanc Paris & Dior Spa, Sinner Paris, and Hôtel D’Aubusson — and even then, they are only indoor pools. There is a villa you can rent in the 5th arrondissement called Les Jardins du Panthéon that has an outdoor swimming pool.

Which Paris hostels have a single room?

The hostels in Paris that offer private single rooms (in addition to single beds in dorm rooms) include:

  1. Adveniat Paris
  2. Caulaincourt Montmartre
  3. FIAP Jean Monnet
  4. Le Regent Montmartre
  5. Mije Marais
  6. St Christopher’s Inn Paris – Gare du Nord
  7. St Christopher’s Inn Paris – Canal
  8. The People – Paris Bercy

Which Paris hostels have a family room?

The great thing about hostels is that their dorm rooms can easily be converted to group rooms if booked relatively early so they’re generally a great bet for families/friends travelling together. An added benefit is that they are also likely to have shared kitchens and dining areas, which makes it convenient for eating in without getting confined by the space available in the bedrooms. These are the hostels in Paris that have private rooms able to accommodate at least four (4) adult guests and have a rating of at least 7/10.

  • Adveniat Paris has a quadruple room and there are also 5- and 8-bed rooms that could be booked out for groups.
  • Auberge de Jeunesse HI Paris Yves Robert has quadruple rooms.
  • FIAP Jean Monnet has a quadruple room as well as family rooms for 5 or 6 adults.
  • Generator Paris has private rooms for 4, 6, or 8 guests.
  • Jo&Joe Paris – Nation has a quadruple room as well as a private room that can sleep up to 6 guests.

  • The 3 Ducks Eiffel Tower (also known as 3 Ducks Boutique Hostel & Bar) has a quadruple room as well as family rooms that can accommodate 5 or 6 guests.
  • The People – Paris Belleville, The People – Paris Bercy, The People – Paris Marais, and The People – Paris Nation has private rooms for 4, 6, and 8 guests. (The 6- and 8-bed private rooms at The People – Paris Bercy have balconies.)
  • UCPA Sport Station Hostel Paris has a quadruple room as well as a family room for six.
  • Vintage Paris Gare du Nord has a quadruple room.

What hostels are in the Paris city centre?

Adveniat Paris is in the 8th arrondissement, about halfway between the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. The Tuileries Garden, Les Invalides, and the Musee d’Orsay are all nearby, and getting to them would only involve a pleasurable stroll along the banks of the Seine River.

In the Montmartre area, several hostels are within walking distance of the Sacré-Cœur: Caulaincourt Montmartre, Plug-Inn Hostel, Le Village Montmartre, and Le Regent Montmartre.

Finally, in the Marais neighborhood, close to the Notre-Dame Cathedral, there are two well-regarded hostels: The People – Paris Marais and Mije Marais.
